Route Planning
Trail Planning and Route Mapping
A two-session service that turns your multi-day walk idea into a workable itinerary with route notes, lodging options, and transport links.
Field Notes from the Trail
We help individuals and small groups plan walks, choose the right kit, and move through Japanese mountain country with a bit more confidence.
Get in touchWhat we offer
There is no shortage of maps and guidebooks for Japan's mountain regions. What tends to be harder to find is someone who will sit with you, understand where you're starting from, and help you piece together an approach that fits. That's what we do.
Our work is deliberately small in scale. We take time with each person, avoid unnecessary complexity, and focus on the kind of preparation that makes the actual walking more enjoyable.
How we work
Every session begins with an honest look at your current experience and what you're hoping to do. We don't assume knowledge you don't have, and we don't rush past things that matter.
Every planning session or gear conversation ends with a written summary. Not a generic checklist, but notes specific to your route, season, and situation.
We keep group sizes modest and calendars light. There's time to cover things properly, adjust when needed, and return to questions that need more space.
The process
Send us a brief note about what you have in mind. No lengthy forms — just a line or two about where you're headed and what kind of help would be useful.
We'll talk through your situation — experience level, timing, what you already have, and what you're hoping to get out of the process.
Depending on which service fits, we plan your route, work through your kit, or spend a day on the ground together. The pace and depth adjust to you.
You leave with something tangible: a printed itinerary, written gear notes, or a record of the day's observations that you can refer back to when you need it.

Skills Session
A full day on the ground covering map reading, weather observation, and self-care practices — built around walking rather than lectures.
Next step
There's no obligation in getting in touch. If you have a walk in mind — or just an idea of a season and a region — we're happy to start a conversation and see if there's something useful we can offer.
